I wanted to document some of the online courses I have been “auditing” to better familiarize myself with the field of neuroscience and the current computational tools available for neuroscience research.
MIT’s The Human Brain Course (Nancy Kanwisher)
This has been my favorite course so far. I have learned so much about the current computational neuroscience tools as well as key experiments that shape our understanding of the brain. Most importantly this course has shown me how to look at neuroscience research problems in a different way: how can we formulate a question into a viable neuroscience experiment? in particular, how can we gather empirical data from an organ that is notoriously difficult to access?
I have been following along with the assigned papers and assignments for this course, which are available on the MIT OpenCourseware Website
Stanford’s Human Behavioral Biology Course (Robert Sapolsky)
In particular, the Neuroscience and Endocrinology lectures from this series helped me refresh my understanding of how basic neurobiology. To supplement this course, I have been using this online textbook to dive deeper into how neurons work.
